there seem to be a bunch of these now, but there was a time when it was the only bright spot in the depressing landscape that is suburban michigan. it’s like what whole foods used to be (says someone who never went to early whole foods before amazon acquired it, so…?) you can get the “healthy” stuff but ALSO A&W root beer. You can get some fun British imports (Cadbury, Lyle’s, etc) but also the hyperlocal things native to your region, like the Leila spice mixes from Chickpea Hospitality, and various breads, cakes, and candy bars from my beloved Zingerman’s. the platonic ideal of a grocery store. I still couldn’t find orange wine there, despite their extensive alcohol selection, but again…suburban michigan.
